30.05.2008 (TDH) President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Lazar Comanescu, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital at the head of the representative delegation.
Expressing gratitude to the hospitable welcome the honorary guest conveyed the heartfelt greetings to the Turkmen leader and the wishes of happiness, wellbeing and new accomplishments in implementing the large-scale reforms initiated in the country, which were of intense interest to Romania, to the people of Turkmenistan on behalf of President of Romania Trajan Besescu.
The head of the Romanian foreign ministry said that a visit of the Turkmen leader, whose policy prioritizing intensification and expansion of intentional co-operation for peace, sustainable development and global security had been recognized worldwide, was looked forward to in his country. Minister Lazar Comanescu said that the fact that Turkmenistan was the first country he was visiting in capacity of the minister of foreign affairs testified to the priorities of Romania’ foreign policy and special significance attached to development of the relations with Turkmenistan.
Thanking for the kind words Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan considered Romania a dependable friend and partner that it was bound with the ties of long-term co-operation. The Turkmen leader gave high praise to the welcome extended to the President and the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan during the NATO Summit in Bucharest.
Positively evaluating the opportunities of co-operation in the bilateral format as well as in the framework of partnership with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation the sides stated the reciprocal readiness to bring partnership up to a higher level meeting the mutual interests.
Touching upon the vast field of Turkmen-Romanian co-operation the President and the Romanian minister of foreign affairs specified textile industry, agriculture and fuel and energy sector, in which concerting efforts were deemed very promising given Turkmenistan’s profound hydrocarbon potential and course towards diversifying economic development and natural gas export routes to the world markets.
Emphasis was made on development of co-operation in such fields as transport and tourism, in which Turkmenistan had launched a number of the large-scale projects. The humanitarian sphere, in particular education regarded in Turkmenistan as of paramount importance was defined as a key field for harmonizing the mutual interests.
The sides reaffirmed the mutual adherence to a practical approach to collaboration calling for working out such an effective mechanism of as the intergovernmental commission. The sides expressed belief that the bilateral economic consultations that the officials of the Romanian governmental agencies had specially arrived in the Turkmen capital to hold would offer a powerful incentive to fruitful collaboration.
Upon concluding the meeting the President of Turkmenistan wished the guest successful work at the important post and expressed belief that Turkmenistan and Romania would intensify co-operation and strengthen the ties of friendship and fraternity between the two peoples.
